ABSTRACT

Background: The Indonesian Demographic and Health Survey (IDHS) 2017 reported high maternal mortality rate (MMR) in Indonesia. As a part of effort to reduce the MMR and infants mortality rate (IMR), a collaboration project was held between the Indonesian Ministry of Health and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The collaboration was to form maternal and child health (MCH) handbook. It is suppo- sed to be an integration tool for MCH services. This study aimed to examine factors associated with understanding of antenatal care message in the MCH handbook among pregnant women at community health center, Kediri, East Java

Subjects and Method: A cross-sectional study was conducted at community health center, Kediri, East Java, from 10 to 25 May 2019. A total of 40 pregnant women was selected for this study. The dependent variable was the level of ANC message under- standing. The independent variables were knowledge, parity, and support of health workers. The data were collected by questionnaire and analyzed by logistic regression.

Results:  Good  maternal  knowledge  (OR=  1.75;  p=  0.034)  and  support  of  health workers (OR= 2.61; p= 0.049) were positively associated with increased level of ANC message understanding. Parity (OR= 1.60; p= 0.159) did not show significant associa- tion with the level of ANC message understanding.
