Nursing Students as a Role Model for Their Families in the Midst of the Covid-19 Pandemic: A Qualitative Study

ABSTRACT

Background: Healthcare professionals have to deal with multiple roles. They are often considered as role models, regarding health, while they are expected to excel in such behaviors. This study aimed to explore the role model of nursing students in promoting healthy behavior in their families.

Subjects and Method: This was a descriptive qualitative study conducted at Dharma Insan School of Nursing, Pontianak, West Kalimantan. A sample of 5 nursing students were selected for this study. The data were collected by an in-depth interview.

Results: Students had acted as a role model for their families by being a good example in the family in washing hand, using face mask, taking a shower immediately after traveling, social distancing, and exercising with the family to prevent COVID-19.

Conclusion: Nursing students can promote community health and prevent COVID-19 transmission by playing their roles as a change agent to bring about healthy behavior in their families.
