The Effectiveness of Educating Covid-19 Prevention Using Leaflet Media on Health Protocol’s Knowledge and Compliance in Families with Covid-19 Survivors

Background: In early 2020, the COVID-19 outbreak began to spread globally. The community plays an essential role in breaking the chain of transmission of COVID-19 by implementing health protocols. One of the actions that the government can take to stop the spread of the coronavirus is educating the public about the dangers of COVID-19. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of educating COVID-19 prevention using leaflet media on health protocol’s knowledge and compliance in families with COVID-19 survivors in Jekulo, Kudus, Central Java.

Subjects and Method: This was a quasi-experiment with one group pre-test post-test design conducted in Jekulo, Kudus, Central Java, in 2020. A sample of 88 family members of COVID-19 survivors was selected for this study. The dependent variables were knowledge and compliance with COVID-19 prevention. The independent variable was media leaflets. The data were collected by questionnaire. The data were analyzed using Wilcoxon.

Results: There was an increase in knowledge of COVID-19 prevention before (Mean= 11.91; SD= 1.17) and after being given education through leaflets (Mean= 13.58; SD= 1.14), and it was statistically significant (p<0.050). Likewise, there was an increase in compliance of COVID-19 prevention before (Mean=9.36; SD=1.19) and after being given education through leaflets (Mean=10.91; SD=1.19), and it was statistically significant (p<0.050).

Conclusion: Educating COVID-19 prevention using leaflet media effectively increases the knowledge and compliance of health protocol in families with COVID-19 survivors.
