Abstract

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has introduced changes in our routines. However, late adolescents often experience occupational factors, living situations in which social distancing is difficult to maintain (e.g., apartments with roommates), and frequent gatherings with individuals outside of their household (e.g., in school or socializing). Secondary transmission of COVID-19 infection can occur in these settings when preventive measures are not followed. This study objective was to investigate correlations between knowledge, attitude, family support, and covid-19 prevention in late adolescents in Surabaya, East Java, Indonesia.

Subjects and Method: This was an analytic observational study with a cross sectional design. The study was conducted in Surabaya, East Java, from November to December 2020. A sample of 385 late adolescents aged 18-21 years was selected for this study. The dependent variable was COVID-19 prevention behavior. The independent variables were knowledge, attitude, and family support. The data were collected using online questionnaire (google form) and analyzed using a multiple logistic regression.

Results: Good knowledge (OR= 2.74; 95% CI= 1.49 to 5.05; p= 0.001), positive attitude (OR= 3.17; 95% CI= 1.76 to 5.70; p<0.001), and strong family suppport (OR= 9.44; 95% CI= 5.28 to 16.89; p<0.001) improved COVID-19 prevention behavior in late adolescents.

Conclusion: Good knowledge, positive attitude, and strong family suppport improve COVID-19 prevention behavior in late adolescents.
