Abstract
Background: The tight schedule of activities in Islamic boarding schools, from waking up to going back to sleep, has the potential to be a stressor for students, espe�cially new students. The purpose of this study was to determine the difference in the effect of jogging and push-up on stress in students.
Subjects and Method: A quasy experiment was carried out at Al-Mukmin Islamic boarding school, Ngruki, Sukoharjo, Central Java. A sample of 50 stundents was selected by purposive sampling and divived into experiment and control groups equally. The dependent variable was stress. The independent variables were jogging and push-up. Jogging was conducted for 20 minutes/ session, three times a week during 4 weeks. Control group received push-up exercise 20 times/ minutes, once a week for 4 weeks. The data were tested using paired samples t-test.
Results: Mean of stress score after jogging exercise in the intervention group (Mean= 19.12; SD= 6.43) was higher than push-up exercise (Mean= 15.24), with p= 0.022.
Conclusion: Push-up exercise is better to lower stres than jogging.
