Abstract

Background: The government has made efforts to reduce MMR (maternal mortality rate) and AKA (child mortality rate). These efforts include Maternal and Child Health Local Area Monitoring (PWS KIA). The maternal and child health (MCH)program is one of the monitoring managements in a work area, so that follow-up can be carried out more quickly and precisely. However, the implementation still often encounters obstacles, so what strategy is needed. This study aimed to know the description of the implementation of the MCH Program.

Subjects and Method: This was a qualitative study with focus group discussions (FGD0 and interviews with key informants. Information/data was obtained through a document a search, and in-depth interviews. Informants are program holders at the community health center and district levels. FGDs were conducted on integrated health center cadres. The data were analyzed using SWOT analysis (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats).

Results: The current program has provided additional knowledge, regarding the health and nutrition of pregnant women, to the subject (pregnant women) and the community. It is needed to involve all parties in detecting, serving pregnant women, and giving birth to babies. The results of the SWOT matrix, positions of the x and y axes show on the axes, x= 0.41; y= 0.1. The program's position is in quadrant I (progressive). This position shows the program has the opportunity to reduce the AKI/AKA mortality rate.

Conclusion: The scope of the existing program needs to be expanded and enlarged so that maximum results are obtained.
