Abstract

Background: The Indonesian Nutrition Status Survey 2021 reported that the Special Region of Yogyakarta was among the best performing provinces in Indonesia in terms of stunting reduction with the prevalence of 17.3%. This study aimed to analyze awareness and participation of stakeholders in stunting reduction programs in Yogyakarta province.

Subjects and Method: A case study carried out in the Special Region of Yogyakarta Province among stakeholders in stunting reduction programs from January to October 2022. A total of 65 respondents from local government officials, academics, business and media representatives as well as community members were involved in study. Data were collected using semi structured interviews, focus group discussion, document analysis, and reflective journal. Data were analyzed using a thematic analysis with stakeholder analysis framework.

Results: The government and stakeholders have contributed in stunting reduction programs but inter-agency cooperation needs to be strengthened. Nutrition interventions have been delivered and funding has been allocated for the efforts. However, the new policy regarding stunting leads to confusion among agencies since it changes the previously assigned responsibilities.

Conclusion: Coordination issues among stakeholders in stunting programs arise, highlighting the needs to develop better partnership agreements.
