Abstract
Background: The World Health Organization (WHO) considers digital health a key driver in addressing the current and future health challenges. WHO explicitly proposes to integrate knowledge and skills related to digital health into the education and training of the new generation for disease prevention, including child malnutrition. Youth’s high levels of digital engagement and literacy skills put them in an excellent position to understand the fundamental requirements for successful digital health implementation. Stunting remains a major global public health problem with an estimated 165 million children below 5 years of age affected. This study aimed to develop an android application for the prevention of child stunting.
Subjects and Method: This was a descriptive and developmental study using the planning, production, and evaluation (PPE) development model according to Richey and Klein. A sample of 12 adolescents was selected for this study representing the typical prospective users. The appropriateness of the design, content, and media of the application was analyzed by material and content experts. The data were analyzed descriptively.
Results: An android-based application for stunting prevention was developed using a PPE framework with 82% content appropriateness, 80% media suitability, and 94% design suitability.
Conclusion: An android-based application for stunting prevention has been developed using a PPE framework with acceptable levels of content appropriateness, media suitability, and design suitability.
Keywords: android application, stunting, adolescents.
