Abstract

Background: The prevalence of diabetes survivors worldwide is projected to reach 643 million in 2030 and 783 million in 2045. The Indonesian government has established an Integrated Development Post “POSBINDU” as a leading effort to prevent and control Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs). Self-management of chronic diseases has benefits for patients including reducing the utilization of health resources and improving quality of life and improving self-care by the individual. This study aimed to exploring the implementation of self-management in type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (DM) survivors.

Subjects and Method: This was a descriptive qualitative study were conducted at Sukoharjo, Central Java from July to August 2023.  The informants were consisted of the cadres, type-2 DM survivors. The data were obtained through in-depth interviews. The data were presented descriptively.

Results: Implementation of good type 2 DM self-management is supported by an understanding of the importance of knowledge about Diabetes Mellitus self-manage­ment, the existence of social support, coaching cadres, the implementation of prolanis and POSBINDU on an ongoing and sustainable basis, as well as the reporting of data on visits from type 2 DM survivors. In addition, cadres POSBINDU is also active in managing DM management.

Conclusion: Good type 2 DM self-management can contribute to improving the quality of life of type 2 DM survivors. However, many factors can influence the implementation of type 2 DM self-management. This research is expected to provide an overview of the implementation of type 2 DM self-management, as well as the factors important factors influencing its implementation
