Abstract

Background: Family planning is an effort to reduce population explosion, such as the use of post-placental IUD contraception. The effectiveness and safety of these contraceptives have been proven, in addition to preventing unwanted pregnancies, reducing unmet needs, and preventing missed opportunities. This study aimed to identify attitudes towards post-placental IUDs and the relationship between attitudes towards respondents' experiences, and sociodemographic characteristics, evaluating the reliability of various sources of information and respondents' trust in the use of post-natal contraception and other social institutions.

Subjects and Method: A survey was conducted in Malang, East Java. A total of 200 women were selected for this study. The dependent variable was attitudes. The independent variables were reliability, information, knowledge, and satisfaction.  The data were collected using questionnaire and analyzed by logistic regression.

Results: Unreliable health workers (OR= 1.64 95% CI= 1.24 to 2.16; p< 0.001), lack of information (OR= 1.79; 95% CI= 1.31 to 2.43; p< 0.001), lack of knowledge of health workers (OR= 2.32; 95% CI= 1.75; p<0.001), and patient dissatisfaction (OR= 3.32; 95% CI= 2.11 to 5.24; p<0.001) increased negative attitudes towards receiving a post-placental IUD.

Conclusion: Unreliable health workers, lack of information, poor knowledge of health workers, and patient dissatisfaction increases negative attitudes towards receiving a post-placental IUD.
