Abstract
Background: Low back pain (LBP) remains a major public health problem. The World Health Organization estimates that 619 million people live with LBP and it is the leading cause of disability worldwide. LBP is often associated with loss of work productivity and produces a huge economic burden on individuals and societies. Health promotion is the process of enabling people to increase control over and improve their health. This study aimed to determine the correlation between awareness of LBP risk factors and the capacity to control the LBP risk factors among workers at textile and garment manufacturers.
Subjects and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted at PT Dan Liris, Sukoharjo, Central Java, Indonesia from January to March 2020. A total of 120 workers were selected for this study. The dependent variable was the capacity to control LBP risk factors. The independent variable was awareness of the LBP risk factor. The data was collected by questionnaire and analyzed by correlation.
Results: Awareness of LBP risk factors was positively correlated with the capacity to control the LBP risk factors (r=0.39; p<0.001).
Conclusion: The capacity to control the LBP risk factors is positively determined by awareness of LBP risk factors among workers at the textile and garment manufacturer. It is suggested that the employer raise awareness of LBP risk factors among workers so that they are more capable of controlling LBP risk factors to prevent the incidence of low back pain.
Keywords: Awareness, capacity to control, low back pain, textile and garment workers.
