Abstract
Background: PRECEDE-PROCEED model is a human behavior theory that attempts to explain predisposing factors, enabling factors, and reinforcing factors, that affect health behavior. The present study aimed to determine the relationships between knowledge, attitudes, self-efficacy, and social support, and patients’ training behavior to recover range of motion (ROM) among post-stroke patients.
Subjects and Method: This was a cross-sectional study conducted at Dr. R. Goeteng Taroenadibrata Regional General Hospital, Purbalingga, Central Java. A total of 76 post-stroke patients were selected in the study. The dependent variable was ROM training behavior. The independent variables were knowledge, attitudes, self-efficacy, and social support. The data were collected by questionnaire. The data were analyzed by multiple logistic regression.
Results: ROM training behavior among post-stroke patients increased with good knowledge (OR= 6.97; 95% CI = 1.47 to 33.01; p = 0.007), positive attitude (OR= 11.11; 95% CI= 3.27 to 37.72; p<0.001), high self-efficacy (OR= 5.88; 95%CI= 1.92 to 20.00; p= 0.001), and strong social support (OR = 33.30; 95% CI= 5.00 to 100.00; p<0.001).
Conclusion: ROM training behavior among stroke patients increases with good knowledge, positive attitude, high self-efficacy, and strong social support.
